Riccardo Marini

 Riccardo Andrea Marini Edinburgh's City Design Leader came to Scotland in 1975, where he completed his studies and gained a master's degree in Architectural Studies (urban design option) in 1986 from the Mackintosh School of Architecture.


Between 1986 and 2004 he worked in the public and private sectors as a design architect and urbanist, whilst teaching at The University of Strathclyde faculty of Architecture. In this period he produced Glasgow's Urban Design Strategy ‘City for People', and championed public art as an important cultural element of the city.


Riccardo had an active role in Glasgow UK City of Architecture and Design 1999. He was responsible for the development and Implementation of Glasgow City Council's Lighting Strategy. In 2002 was asked to advise the Provincia di Treviso on Urbanism matters and since then he as acted as an advisor to Faenza Turin and Pistoia. Riccardo was appointed the City of Edinburgh's City Design Leader in April 2004. He is responsible for the Cities Design Initiative. In 2005 he was elected as one of the 100 academician in the newly formed Academy of Urbanism.


Over the years Riccardo has been involved in the organisation of conferences, workshops and events to try and give prominence to good design and urbanism. He has often been asked to comment on public art, architecture, design and urban matters.
