What happened during the Campaign?
CSFT's 2009 campaign: Save the Wee Bees launched successfully in April. The campaign had a dual purpose - to raise awareness of the plight of the Bumblebee and to actively plant some wildflower meadows.
To date, CSFT have organised 19 planting events with local schools and community groups, planting a total of 8800 wildflowers. We have attended 5 corporate events, including the Royal Highland Show, the Campsie Show and the Kirkintilloch Canal Festival, Between the corporate and community planting events, we have given away a total of 9000 information and activity leaflets; 16,000 packets of Bee friendly wildflower seeds; and nearly 7000 goodie bags including pencils, badges and fuzzy bee bugs.
We have also given away BumblyAid kits to 250 schools in the Central Scotland Forest area, which provide everything the school needs to create a Bumblebee meadow in their grounds. This has enabled us to distribute a further 9000 activity leaflets, 2500 seed packets and over 500 Bee identification guides and posters..
Funding for the project has come from Scottish Natural Heritage, East Dunbartonshire Council, Falkirk Council, the Tree Council and CSFT. Invaluable advice and support has been provided by Bumblebee Conservation Trust.
