There are approximately 4.7km (2.9 miles) of natural, unsurfaced paths on mostly flat ground, although the site slopes gradually up to a high point of 100m.

Estimated Duration

You can spend up to two hours exploring this large open site. A number of routes and Rights of Way also lead out from the community woodland into the surrounding countryside.

Local Facilities

Local convenience shops can be found on Timmeryetts and Galmeilen although other shops, cafes and a public toilet can be found on West Main Road in Broxburn town centre, 600m (0.4 miles) away.

Accessing Broxburn Community Woodland

Broxburn Community Woodland lies to the north of the villages of Uphall and Broxburn in West Lothian. It is recommended that you access the site from Clarkston Road / Galloway Crescent, which can be reached from the A89 / West Main Street in Broxburn.

Possible Routes and Available Paths

The paths are mostly wide, mown grass tracks, although there are some narrow muddy tracks that have been created by regular use that can also be explored. A number of waymarkers around the site will help you find your way and there are two timber benches along the route.

Site Highlights

There are superb views over Uphall and Broxburn towards the Pentland Hills, Arthur's Seat and even as far as the Forth Road Bridge. The site has a young broadleaf woodland, grassland and open tracks between the trees to explore and, in spring, the gorse bloom adds a splash of vibrant colour. You will also see one of 11 public art sculptures found in West Lothian which are part of the Kirkhill Pillar Project and are interpretations of the different planets in the solar system. "Mars", which is found in Broxburn Community Woodland, is a distinctive red sculpture which represents the red planet.
