Geocaching is a fun and exciting new way to explore the outdoors, combining good old-fashioned orienteering with the latest technology. It's an interactive "treasure hunt" whereby you attempt to discover hidden boxes or caches, using a handheld Global Positioning System (GPS) receiver.

The geocaches, which may be hidden anywhere in the world, are often located in local areas of interest and beauty spots. We've placed geocaches on four of our sites within the Central Scotland Forest area to encourage you to get out and about in the fresh air.

Our caches are suitable for beginners and can be found at www.geocaching.com by searching for "Central Scotland Forest".

You will need a GPS receiver, or a GPS enabled mobile phone or PDA, onto which you download the coordinates of where the geocaches are. As they are usually hidden cleverly out of sight, a small clue may also be provided to help you with your search.

Geocaches contain a small log book and a number of swappable items. Log your visit and, if you take something from the box, replace it with an item of equal value. Remember to also log your visit on the geocaching website when you get home so we can see how you got on!
