
Save the Wee Bees
What happened during the Campaign?
CSFT's 2009 campaign, Save the Wee Bees, had a dual purpose - to raise awareness of the plight of the Bumblebee and to actively plant some wildflower meadows.
Activities included:
- 8800 wildflowers planted at 19 events with local schools and community groups
- 5 major events attended, including the Royal Highland Show, the Campsie Show and the Kirkintilloch Canal Festival
- 9000 information and activity leaflets distributed
- 16,000 packets of Bee-friendly wildflower seeds handed out
- 7000 goodie bags of pencils, badges and fuzzy bee bugs given to children
- 250 “BumblyAid” kits distributed to 250 schools in the Forest area, providing everythingneeded to create a Bumblebee meadow .The kits accounted for 9000 activity leaflets, 2500 seed packets and over 500 Bee identification guides and posters
The project was funded by Scottish Natural Heritage, East Dunbartonshire Council, Falkirk Council, the Tree Council and CSFT. Invaluable advice and support was provided by the Bumblebee Conservation Trust.

Alarm Bells for Blue Bells
What happened during the campaign?
CSFT’s 2008 campaign “Alarm Bells for Bluebells” aimed to raise awareness of the plight of the British Bluebell in woodlands across the country.
Activities included:
- 30,000 information leaflets distributed throughout Central Scotland
- 19 community and school planting events took place across the Forest area
- Several others organised outside the Forest area by partners (eg BTCV, Scottish Wildlife Trust and Forth Environment Link)
- 48,500 native Bluebell bulbs planted in Central Scotland
- CSFT promoted the campaign at BIG in Falkirk, the Royal Highland Show, the Kirkintilloch Canal Festival and IKEA, Braehead to raise awareness and give away bulbs
- The campaign was featured in local and national press (eg the Scotsman), Real Radio and the BBC website
Thanks to everyone who planted the 48,500 bulbs - the original target of 20,000 was smashed!
