Site Highlights
This young woodland on the edge of Airdrie, was planted in 2005 and links with the site of the former Wellside Quarry. The grasslands, cliffs and ponds you can see are all evidence of the quarrying that once occurred here, as are the numerous small shale deposits found around the site. Such a rich variety of birds, plants and animals can be found here that the northern part of the site has been designated as a Site of Importance for Nature Conservation (SINC), reflecting the wildlife value. Keep an eye out for the Kestrel, which is thought to nest in the cliff of the old quarry. In spring, the gorse and broom add a splash of bright yellow when they are in flower.
