Site Highlights
This site was previously owned by British Coal and was purchased by CSFT in 1997. Much of it has been planted as woodland and footpaths follow the route of a disused mineral railway line which runs west to east. A mixture of conifers and deciduous trees have been planted including hazel, beech, alder and rowan. The marshy grassland areas are home to a variety of sedges, rushes and wildflowers as well as many species of butterfly. Getting There By Car: Shotts is in the heart of Central Scotland just off the M8 at junction 5. Torbothie Community Woodland lies off Cemetery Road on the south east of Shotts. Limited on street parking is available on Cemetery Road. By Bus: Call Traveline on 0870 6082608. By Train: The train station at Shotts is accessible from Glasgow Central and Edinburgh. It is possible to take your cycle on this route, but this should be confirmed in advance of your journey. Download a detailed leaflet on Torbothie Community Woodland in a printable PDF.
