Winner of Broomage Greenspace Survey Announced
18 June 2009
A Larbert resident has been awarded £50 worth of shopping vouchers after taking part in an on-line survey about the Broomage Greenspace.
Ryan McBurney took part in the survey by Central Scotland Forest Trust (CSFT) to monitor and evaluate the success of Broomage Greenspace, one year after improvements had been made to the site.
CSFT has transformed the area of derelict land behind the houses on Broomage Crescent to create a welcoming greenspace. The removal of litter and fly tipping, the creation of new paths and the planting of different trees and wildflowers have all contributed to significantly improving the unused piece of wasteland which is now known as Broomage Greenspace.
Simon Rennie, chief executive of CFST, said: "Responses to the survey were generally very positive and the majority of people felt that the area was more pleasant and put to better use than it had been previously.
"We are keen to take local opinions into account and as well as assessing the success of the project and we hope the findings will help us to determine if there are other areas in the local community which would benefit from similar improvements."
Mr McBurney, the winning participant of the survey, said: "There is an appalling lack of greenspace in the surrounding area, especially since most of the grounds of the Royal Scottish National Hospital which were previously used by locals to walk in are now off-limits due to the construction of the new hospital.
"The creation of Broomage Greenspace has been vital to the community. The space is well used as there are now very few open areas left. I am there twice a day and often bump into people which had once been reasonably uncommon, particularly in the winter months."
