Improving the view at Viewpark
25 March 2009
CSFT, with the support of local partners including North Lanarkshire Council and Strathclyde Police, has won £19,811 from SEPA's Clean Up Project funding to remove litter from the Red Burn stretch of the Viewpark woodlands.
CSFT's Sustainable Development Officer, Mike Batley said, "Rubbish has been allowed to accumulate in the woodland for a number of years and clearing it out will make it a better place for people and wildlife. It is a real boost to plans to regenerate the whole of the Viewpark woodlands".
Inspector Stewart Hurry of Strathclyde Police said, "The success of this application by CSFT is welcomed by all those agencies involved in the Joint Tasking and Coordinating group, which has recently been set up. The Community Improvement Plan which has been developed as a template for sustainable improvements to the local environment and the health and wellbeing of the community and reducing the fear of crime, is a long term strategy of which this plan forms an important initial phase. The collaboration between partners, the voluntary sector, community groups and businesses should, hopefully, bring about positive sustainable change and make the Viewpark area a better place to live, work and invest."
The work, which commenced in March, will clear the woodland of rubbish allowing wildflowers to be planted which will add a great splash of colour to the woodland, especially near to people's back gardens.
