John Wilson MSP, representatives from Falkirk Council, British Waterways and other interested parties attended a short presentation at the Wheel and, subsequently, joined a number of children and adults in a nearby woodland, on Falkirk Wheel land, to help plant about 1000 native bluebell bulbs.

The Falkirk Wheel are giving away 10,000 bulbs to visitors to help meet CSFT's objective to plant over 25,000 bulbs in Central Scotland this year.

The campaign intends to help keep the native bluebell as the prominent variety in Scotland in the face of rapidly increasing numbers of the more rampant spreading Spanish and hybrid varieties.

Real Radio has promoted the bluebell giveaway, STV reported it in in a number of its news bulletins, Central FM broadcasted an interview given by Simon Rennie, CSFT's chief executive on air, the Falkirk Herald featured an article and the BBC featured the plight of the native bluebell on their website.

The launch day was great success, let's hope the saving of our native bluebell is as successful.
