Shotts Nature Park Survey
07 April 2008
Central Scotland Forest Trust would like to hear your views regarding proposed path improvements in Shotts Nature Park and Hillhouseridge.
This award winning park was created in 1990 by CSFT, local schools and members of the community to provide an area for outdoor recreation, environmental education and wildlife conservation.
The site has a wide variety of features including:
- pond-dipping platform
- native woodland
- an arboretum
- open space
- meadow & wetland
- benches
- surfaced & mown paths
The park is frequently used by local schools, walkers, cyclists, joggers and horse riders and provides an off-road route from the centre of Shotts to Hartwood Estate, Shotts Prison, CSFT Headquarters at Hillhouseridge Farm and the surrounding countryside. However, many of the paths have become muddy and virtually impassible during wet weather and CSFT plans to surface mown grass paths and create new circular routes to encourage and enable a wide range of leisure activities, health walks and commuting opportunities.
Central Scotland Forest Trust is keen to hear your views on these proposed path improvements and any other ideas you have for improving your local nature park. Please take a few minutes to look at the map of proposed work and fill in the online survey. Or you might like to tell us your views in person by attending one of the consultation events which will be advertised locally.
If you would like further information, are keen to get involved in helping to look after your nature park or would like to visit the site for a guided tour, contact Linda McConaghie on 01501 824796.
