A Woodland Wonderland

We are celebrating at CSFT headquarters in Shotts!

After much anticipation, we have been awarded Highly Commended for our Greenlink  project in this year’s Community Woodlands Award category at Scotland’s Finest Wood Awards 2011.

The Forestry Commission Scotland played host to the Awards ceremony on Friday 24th June at the Royal Highland Show in Edinburgh where the Minister for Environment and Climate Change, Stewart Stevenson presented the certificates and highly sought after cherry wood plaques to the winners and honorees.

The accolade for the Greenlink linear park project in Motherwell, Lanarkshire just goes to show how small initiatives can have a big impact.

The project successfully achieved its aim of transforming a degraded and neglected woodland area into a natural oasis the community would use and value. The linear park now has a positive impact on the local community as well as on the wider ecological environment.

A key success factor of the development was the formation and ongoing support of a group of volunteers comprising of local residents who not only assisted in the improvement of the area but also encouraged others to get involved.

The program is a good example of social enterprise in action, effectively engaging the community and promoting social inclusion. The impact of the project on society is a testament to the hard work and commitment of all those involved.
