Volunteering & Learning

Volunteering Opportunities

To get involved with environmental community groups or projects to use your skills or learn new ones eg designing promotional posters, undertaking practical conservation work, contact your area's Sustainable Development Officer who can put you in contact with the group nearest you. Some groups manage sites leased from the Central Scotland Forest Trust or other owners, while some groups manage or own their sites.

If you don’t wish to be part of a group but still want to volunteer, why not contact BTCV Scotland whose staff in Glasgow, Stirling & Edinburgh run practical workdays in and around the Central Scotland Forest.

BTCV Scotland also operates the Green Gym scheme for individuals to get outdoors and enjoy healthy practical conservation tasks. Contact BTCV on 01786 479697 for further information on BTCV’s volunteering opportunities within the Central Scotland Forest.

Learning

There are many opportunities to use the Central Scotland Forest as a live classroom as it offers practical methods of linking forests, woodlands and trees to school, college, youth and community curricula.  If you need assistance in co-ordinating visits to woodlands, green or open spaces to undertake any practical learning activities such as tree planting or science-related mini-beast identification hunts, the Central Scotland Forest Trust can provide advice on suitable locations. Contact your area Sustainable Development Officer for further details.

Online Forest Resource

The online educational tool “Tree Trunk” contains a host of information about resources for using trees, woodlands and forests to deliver the Early Years, 5 – 14 and National Qualifications Curricula.  Parents can also use it to assist their children’s understanding of the very special role trees play in our planet too – visit www.forestry.gov.uk/treetrunk
