Community Project Awards

Community groups and schools benefit from the Community Project Fund

The Central Scotland Forest Trust has awarded over £14,000 to 49 school and community-led environmental improvement projects throughout the Central Scotland Forest.  Groups benefiting  from individual awards of up to £500 include nursery, primary and high schools creating wildlife or sensory gardens within their grounds and community groups creating sensory gardens, landscaping memorial cairns, maintaining woodlands, planting wildflowers, entering Scotland in Bloom, encouraging local storytelling events, organising family fun days, promoting bat conservation and building a raised bog walkway.

The Community Projects Fund offered one-off grants of up to £500 to help formally constituted groups improve their local environment.  The groups are not required to part-fund their projects and the award can be spent to cover the entire cost of a project or be a contribution towards it.

The volume and scope of applications delighted Community Liaison Officer, Linda McConaghie, who says: "The creativity of projects coming direct from people who want to improve their local area is fantastic.  Combined, these projects will make a significant contribution to establishing the Central Scotland Forest."
