B in the Park
07 August 2010
Would you like to take part in something unique and rewarding? Our B in the Park event on Saturday 7st August at Dalzell Estate, Motherwell will give you this opportunity - and help wildlife into the bargain!
Throughout the event, which runs from 10.00 am, there will be practical conservation projects which will benefit wildlife and contribute to the positive management of the estate, and adjacent Barons Haugh RSPB Nature Reserve.
This is a great opportunity to explore the estate and reserve and to enjoy some of the many improvements taken forward in the last 5 years in partnership with the North Lanarkshire Council, RSPB, Scottish Natural Heritage, Heritage Lottery and Historic Scotland. Over the last year alone there has been an ambitious programme of works which has included extensive path development, efforts to increase safety in the park and many successful environmental improvements.
B in the Park provides an opportunity for you to have a hand in these improvements. On the day you can help out in the newly developed tree nursery, you can plant and enrich two wildflower meadows, you can try your hand at Rhododendron bashing and woodland thinning, including the removal of non-native species, and you can help tidy up some of the woodland paths assisting with a litter pick. There will also be guided walks provided at the end of the day after all your good work on the site so you can learn more about the wildlife that lives there.
B in the park is run by the North Lanarkshire Biodiversity Partnership which includes the council and other agencies involved in improving our environment.
We look forward to seeing you at Dalzell on the 7th August. We ask that you be environmentally responsible and use public transport or walk to the park.
