The Central Scotland Forest lies at the heart of the Central Scotland Green Network (CSGN). Established as one of 14 National Developments within the second National Planning Framework, the CSGN will deliver a step change in the quality of the environment for the benefit of people, landscape and nature. The creation of the CSGN, alongside improvements in rail, road and communications infrastructure, will make Central Scotland a more attractive place to live in, do business and visit.
Increasingly we will align CSF activities to help deliver the CSGN. In doing this we will assist the CSGN in meeting a number of objectives such as:
- Improving the health and resilience of the natural environment will help it to adapt to climate change.
- Increasing woodland cover to enhance the landscape settings of our towns and cities,
- Improving networks of other habitats, including wetlands, to counter fragmentation and assist species migration.
- Bringing vacant and derelict land back into beneficial use, improving biodiversity and amenity and helping to absorb CO 2.
- Developing footpath and cycleway networks and other facilities and attractions to contribute to a more sustainable transport network and to encourage walking and cycling instead of accessing services by car.
- Expanding the range of recreational opportunities close to major centres of population to encourage community action and healthier lifestyles.
